Hello.
I specialize in nineteenth-century "Latin American" textualities; critical and interpretive theory—specifically, abolitionist, black, decolonial, indigenous, and trans* feminisms—; and contemporary Yucatec Maya literatures. My classes focus on breaking away from the traditional literary canon to attend to commonly marginalized texts in meaningful ways. My courses are organized around decolonial, liberatory frameworks that question the cisheteronormative, or colonial/modern underpinnings of gender, class and race relations.
I currently serve at the rank of Assistant Professor in Spanish; am core faculty in Gender, Women’s and Sexuality Studies; and am affiliated faculty in Latinx and Latin American Studies at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago.
